Alejandra Orsini Santana
Country Director Dominican Republic – Executive CommitteeAlejandra is Country Director Dominican Republic for asistensi, a Madrid-based insurtech, with operations in Latin America and South East Asia. It offers accessible health plans to the families of migrants who reside in Europe, the United States, and the Middle East that include health services and insurance coverage to protect them against day-to-day ailments, common illnesses, and medical emergencies.
Prior to this role, Alejandra was the General Manager of Cia. de Luz y Fuerza de Las Terrenas and Generadora Eléctrica de Samaná, an energy conglomerate that generates and distributes energy in one of the Dominican Republic’s most popular tourist destinations. Alejandra led a group of over 130 people, overseeing: Sales, Finance, Operations, Customer Service, Marketing and Communications, new business verticals, strategic projects, and key relationships with the industry’s regulator. During the almost 9 years she served in this role, Alejandra managed to help maintain 10% annual growth in sales, lower energy losses by 15%, negotiate and structure an energy tariff that was 50% higher than previous tariffs, negotiate USD$10MM contracts with energy providers, amongst other important accomplishments.
Prior to this experience, Alejandra spent time as a Finance and Treasury Analyst at Banco López de Haro, through this role she had the opportunity to manage the bank’s daily treasury, invest in the local bonds markets, as well as the NYSE. Alejandra was responsible for the bank’s first operations in the local stock markets which increased the bank’s revenue and margins.
Alejandra was also a Professor of Financial Mathematics at one of the country's top universities called Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra.
In addition, in the past, she has served as the Vice President of the Dominican Association of Isolated Electrical Systems (ADOSEA) and on the board of directors of the Tourism Cluster of Samaná and the Association of Tourism Companies of Samaná. She is currently an active member of the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE). In 2019 she was recognized as one of the 20 women that have contributed to the energy industry of the Dominican Republic.
Alejandra has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and Business Management (graduating Magna and Summa Cum Laude, respectively), as well as an associate degree in International Business. She completed a postgraduate degree in finance and an MBA from Barna Management School.
